What kind of iron should I get?

I am going to start taking iron supplements. My iron is still in the normal range, as is my ferritin but they are both trending down and my ferritin is almost out of the range.

But I can see there are about 50 million kinds. What's the best kind to take if you have a little VSG tummy?

My vote would be for Proferrin ES. No constipation, easy on the system, no stomach acid needed, and you can take it with other vitamins. Only takes 1 tablet split in half a day. Split it in half to ease absorption around the coating. If you need more to reverse the trend, you can take 2. Check out their website.

Does VitaLady sell that? I wanted to order some stuff from her as a form of support.

She absolutely carries it. Look under Iron and Colorado Labs, Proferrin ES.

Whatever one you pick, taking as the same time as vit C will help it be absorbed into your system better.

I'm  taking the Bariatric Advantage Chocolate Raspberry chews as pills and capsules still come right back up on me.  I wasn't taking additional iron until I noticed on my 6 month labs that my iron had dipped to 42.  It was 75 at my 3 month check.  My ferritin went from 193 to 137.

My ferritin is 24! But my iron is 95 which is fine really. But last year it was 141 and with my ferritin down at the bottom of the range... it's troubling.

I got concerned because my iron dipped in 6 months.  I think I'll start eating more red meat for the iron and cooking it in the cast iron pan.

Your iron was great last year.  Were you supplementing before or just getting iron from food and multi vitamin?

I wasn't supplementing.

At 7 weeks out, when I was in the ER after giving blood the day before, my iron was 54. That's when I started taking my multis at lunch and not with breakfast. I figured the calcium in my shakes was probably interfering with the absorption of the iron. Of course, giving blood probably didn't help.

That seemed to work in that my iron went back up to something reasonable. But my ferritin was 25.
